Simplified voting changes for Kashmiri migrants
Simplified voting process for Kashmiri migrants in Lok Sabha elections
The Election Commission has made it simpler for Kashmiri migrants from Jammu and Udhampur districts to vote in Lok Sabha elections. They no longer need to fill 'Form M', which used to be mandatory before each election. Now, they will be automatically assigned to special polling stations where they live.
No More Form M, just Voter ID needed
Instead of 'Form M', Kashmiri migrants in Jammu and Udhampur will be assigned to specific polling stations. They don't need to fill any extra forms. They just need to carry their voter ID or another valid identification document when they go to vote.
For those Kashmiri migrants living in places like Delhi, the process is easier too. They can now use self-attestation instead of getting a certification from a gazetted officer. This means they can verify their own details. The Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir will happen in different phases, starting from April 19. The votes will be counted on June 4.
Why the change?
